Green Hills

Greenhills is one of only three federally planned and constructed greenbelt communities in the United States, a project initiated during the 1930s Great Depression to provide employment and create a new type of suburban living. The neighborhood was designed to offer newly built homes set in park-like environments, with a surrounding greenbelt that maintains a natural, scenic atmosphere.

Despite the growth of the area over the years, much of Greenhills retains its original beauty, including virgin forests and rolling meadows. The community has preserved a great deal of its historical charm, which led to its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. In 2017, the historic district of Greenhills was designated as a National Historic Landmark, recognizing its unique role in the nation’s development and its architectural significance.

The heart of Greenhills is its welcoming, congenial atmosphere, with schools, shopping, a library, and recreational facilities all conveniently located within walking distance from the homes. The community is adjacent to Winton Woods Park, which offers a wide variety of outdoor activities, including horseback riding, boating, fishing, golf, camping, and numerous nature and fitness trails.

The residential areas of Greenhills feature a mix of attractive single-family homes and pleasant multi-family dwellings, many of which are located on tree-lined streets. Semi-detached two-family houses are a notable feature, providing an ideal environment for young families or those looking for starter homes. The community’s close-knit feel and well-maintained neighborhoods make it an ideal place for both new residents and those seeking a peaceful suburban lifestyle with easy access to green spaces and urban amenities.
