Georgetown

Georgetown, the county seat of Brown County, serves as the heart of the county’s activity. Located in the largely flat south-central region of the county, Georgetown is home to approximately 3,800 residents who enjoy a lively village atmosphere. The town is centered around the striking Greek Revival-style Brown County Courthouse, which serves as a focal point for the community.

Beyond the charm of small-town life, Georgetown boasts a rich cultural scene. The internationally renowned wildlife artist John Ruthven calls the village home, contributing to its artistic vibrancy. Georgetown’s historic district was added to the National Register of Historic Places during the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976, adding to the town’s cultural significance.

Georgetown’s downtown area blends classic Victorian Italianate and Federal-style buildings with more modest neighboring homes, including traditional ranch-style houses and simple frame homes. This combination of architectural styles gives Georgetown a unique character, making it a charming and culturally rich place to live.
