Evanston
Evanston, originally farmland purchased by James Lyon from John Cleves Symmes in 1796, began its transformation in 1875 when the land was platted east of Montgomery Road. The development of the railroad system led to the establishment of subdivisions west of Montgomery Road, known as Idlewood and Ivanhoe. In 1893, the area was renamed Evanston, after Evanston, Illinois. Initially a small bedroom suburb with no businesses, Evanston annexed with Cincinnati in 1903. It is also notable as the birthplace of actress Doris Day.
Today, Evanston is undergoing significant revitalization, driven by the Evanston Community Council’s Ten-Year Plan, which focuses on improving housing, recreation, and the business district. The neighborhood offers a mix of historical charm and modern development, featuring older homes from the late 1800s and early 1900s alongside newly constructed condominiums and homes, making it a dynamic and evolving community.
